Training

All Health Trainer trainees will undertake a programme of education and training, to equip them with the knowledge and skills for the role. This will include:

  • Induction: a core programme of induction to meet the needs for NHS employment.

  • Foundation: a core ‘rolling programme’ of modules designed to address a range of common lifestyle issues.

  • Top-up programme: education and training specific to the workplace or setting for the Health Trainer.

The training will include experiential learning such as ‘shadowing’ and ‘walking the patch’ and will use creative learning methods. Many of the training modules will be accredited so that formal educational recognition can be provided for the Health Trainers.

Health Trainers will complete the training during a probationary period of 3 months, and be assigned Trainee status until completion of their education and training programme.

It is hoped that the training will be rolled out to many other organisations and individuals to increase the numbers of Health Trainers, paid or unpaid, working in the city.
