What are Health Trainers?

Health Trainers are a new workforce to provide extra support to the people and communities living in Hull so that they are able to get what they need to improve their health. As a pilot site, the Hull Health Trainer Partnership will be able to test out what works locally as the Health Trainer workforce is developed, how Health Trainers are recruited from local communities and how they will work in the city of Hull.

Who are Health Trainers?

Health Trainers are people, living and working in local communities, who know and understand what it is like to live in Hull, and who have been given training to prepare them as a Health Trainer. They may have experience of community activity or work and may have some qualifications, although training is provided to ensure the Health Trainer is adequately trained for the work they do. They work with the people in their neighbourhoods or areas, who need extra help to change their lifestyle and improve their health and situation, and prevent diseases such as cancer or heart disease.

The Pilot in Hull

As part of the pilot development in Hull, Health Trainers will help to develop the service so that it works well, both for the Health Trainer and for the people they are working with. They can provide information on what Personal Health Plans need to look like, what are the main health concerns of the people they work with, and so help us to develop better services which better meet people's needs.
